Drink Cart Friday Shot: Jingles and Juice.
A Friday newsletter shot full of jingles you’ll hum later and swear you made up yourself.
Dear marketing fans, this Friday pour is proof that if you make it sweet enough, people will buy anything, even your half-baked AI-created jingles.
I wanted to talk about these food AI videos like the mozzarella sticks being covered by waves of marinara.
But got distracted by making my own jingle with AI for this week’s shot.
The Alabama Slammer was born in the 70s at the University of Alabama, but it didn’t stay in those dirty frat houses for long. It found its way into dive bars everywhere because it’s bold, sweet and makes you think happy summer vibes no matter what.
It’s just Southern Comfort, amaretto, lime grenadine. And it’s basically a brainstorm in liquid form. Too many and your client presentation might get weird, but just one and suddenly the tagline start writing themselves.
The Alabama Slammer Shot
1/2 oz Southern Comfort
1/2 oz Amaretto
1/4 oz Lime Juice
Dash of Grenadine or cherry syrup
Shake with ice, strain and pour into whatever agency glassware is avail.
1. Friday Motivation Jingles
Sometimes you just have to face the facts in agency life. There is no way you can ever create anything as cool as something like this Wendy’s training video from the 1980s on soda. It’s just too good. Too pure. Too many vibes.
And if that wasn’t your bag, you have to see this 1987 jingle for Kudos Granola Bars.
2. The Queen of Decaf Drama
Lauren Bacall didn’t just sip High Point decaf coffee, she turned it into an acting masterclass. Every ad felt like a scene she was stealing, selling stupid decaf coffee with the same conviction she brought to her big screen roles.
She didn’t stupid pitch decaf, she performed the hell out of it and audiences ate it up. For the record decaf is a terrible idea, but this coffee acting is legit. Mmmmmm.
3. Niche Dating Site Content
I’m not sure what is more surprising. 1. That there is a Sea Captain dating service. 2. Or that they churn out incredible AI social content and merch like this:
4. Tim Tarts
You sometimes come across historical menu experimentation and wonder how they ever survived as a brand. Case in point. Everything about this Tim Horton’s campaign is so wrong. Is this really where they were going before Tim Bits become iconic?
5. Ad History: Nissin Cup Noodle - Mozzarella (2001)
I have no idea what is even happening in this spot. But I can’t stop watching it. You’re welcome.
Thanks for reading. Another round next week
Jackson.
The Drink Cart Friday Shot is your late Friday pick-me-up for pop culture brains and ad junkies. A fast pour of ad insights and hot takes, served like a quick round at your favourite dive bar after a week of client feedback.
