Pull up a chair.

The Drink Cart is the newsletter version of sitting at a really good bar with someone who thinks too much about advertising and won’t shut up about it.

Every Wednesday and Friday you get ad commentary, collecting vintage ads like baseball cards, finding TV spots time forgot and a cocktail recipe that tries to tie into the theme or the mood.

If you’ve ever sat through a brand strategy presentation and thought “this could’ve been a drink” — you’re in the right place.

This isn't Ad Age. We’re not writing 800 words about a WPP restructure. We're talking about why a 1987 Chex ad looks like a Wes Anderson film.

If you're looking for press releases rewritten as articles and AI trend pieces that were already stale when they were published, you're in the wrong place.

The Drink Cart is what happens when an actual copywriter talks about ads the way people actually talk about ads.

The Drink Cart is written by Jackson Murphy, a former bartender and ad agency copywriter with nearly 25 years of experience and a founder at Pound & Grain. I’m still in the weeds every day making ads, writing client emails, doing timesheets and trying to use the bots as best I can. The newsletter is what I wish existed when I started in this business: someone with opinions, a decent liquor shelf and no interest in being diplomatic about creative.
