Drink Cart Friday Shot: Festive Peppermint Bark
A Friday newsletter that will memory hole any of the post pitch anxiety you feel.
Dear agency peppermint bark enthusiasts and those in the spirt to rewrite Good King Wenceslas for an ad.
As Mariah Carey would say, “It’sssss timmmmmmmmeeeeeee.” Because you know what this week needs? The festive flavours of everyone’s favourite holiday treats in a shot. Like the mid peppermint bark you’ll get in a gift basket. (If it’s from Williams and Sonoma, that’s the good stuff).
Here’s the plan. Break out that bottle of Irish cream, add some of that disgusting St. Patrick’s days’ peppermint schnapps leftover from the last agency event, crush up the old candy cane still in your desk from last year, forget about that meeting or pitch, and get completely Friday’d.
The Peppermint Bark Shot Breakdown:
1 oz vanilla vodka
1/4 oz peppermint schnapps
1/4 oz cream de cacao
½ oz Irish cream
Crushed candy canes for topping.
Add the booze to a shaker with ice, shake it, strain it, top with some candy cane pieces and drink it.
1. It’s Spritzmas apparently?
I’m not opposed to completely made up, possibly not even relevant, holiday brand holidays.
2. The most expensive billboard ever
Recently Fanatics created what they claim is the most expensive billboard ever. A $1.5 million placement featuring four game worn jerseys from Super Bowls and MVP seasons.
3. The Rom Com Holiday Ad We All Needed
This week I enjoyed this ad and this incredible essay by Keira Knight about her greatest meal (it’s a great read). She should be doing an annual holiday rom com for Netflix.
4. Obligated to Include Christmas Ad Content.
Can we just talk about that time in 1977 when Sprite did their own take on the classic carol, “Good King Wenceslas.” This is incredible stuff: “The taste of limon mixes right / On holiday occasions.” Yeah it does.
5. Burgers of the Rich and Famous
It’s 1985, you score Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous host Robin Leach to give away $14,000,000.
Thanks for reading. And drinking. See you next week, but first, you gotta watch Bruce Willis sell the absolute hell out of Seagram’s Wine Coolers in 1986.
Jackson.
The Drink Cart Friday Shot is your late Friday pick-me-up for pop culture brains and ad junkies. A fast pour of ad insights and hot takes, served like a quick round at your favourite dive bar after a week of client feedback.
